Fieldwork Friday

Unfortunatly this week I did not get out into the field and due to a pretty busy week, I have not had a chance to put together a post on previous fun field work excursions.

However, I strongly encourage you to take a trip over to Virginia Museum of Natural History's "Updates from the Vertebrate Paleontology Lab." Alton Dooley has put together a nice series on field work he and a groups of students representing four different schools are doing at Carmel Church!

Have a great weekend!

Thanks, ReBecca! We wrapped up at Carmel Church today, but all the posts are still up. I get a week to catch my breath, then the next week we'll be excavating in Triassic rocks in the Danville Basin, on the VA-NC state line.

you too! Actually, i have been reading that blog for over a year now. Best paleo blog put on by a museum, in my opinion.

Hi Alton! Not a problem. I am glad to pass along other great blog work and this really helped me out too! Have fun in the Triassic. I look forward to hearing what you find.

I agree Doug - I think it is one of the best Museum blogs out there. I wish more museums took the time and effort that Alton does.

Yeah, if only. I find the one put on by the Museum of the Rockies to be rather substandard. The Excavatrix ( http://excavatrix.blogspot.com/ ) is another decent one, when she can upgrade it. I wish Burpee would do one. With all the stuff they are finding, that would be an interesting blog. But for now, Alton's blog reigns supreme as far as museum blogs go. I have learned so much from it ie reasons for collecting whale post crania.

Last time I looked at the MOR blog it had not been updated in a while. Same with the Utah Museum's and the Houston Museum's. Our Museums blog updates pretty regularly, but not much about paleo recently. We need to work on that. Thanks for the link to the Excavatrix, I was not aware of it.

Really? Utah and Houston do blogs? I didn't know that. yeah, Rockies' last update was in October.

You're welcome. I first learned of Excavatrix when i was perusing the LA Museum's collections news. I actually "won" the guess the bone post and last weekend got a nice little tour of Project 23 and the lab/collections. Follow the link in my name to see my pictures from that, if you want.

I was looking at your pictures. Those are pretty cool! I like the tar pits, and I am glad I do not have to work in that stuff. ;)

I should split the museum blogs out into their own list....
