SVP 2008

This year was my 8th time to attend the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology annual meeting. They have all been great meetings, and I love getting to see every one each year and hear about all of the new and exciting research taking place in my field! I take my camera pretty much everywhere I go (in case you might not have noticed), and I love to document the things that happen at these meetings. I have been posting my pictures from SVP every year on my website (Dinochick.com) and I have done the same with this years pictures. I wish I could have posted them a bit more quickly than I have, but that is life, and I do the best I can with the time I have. So please feel free to check out the SVP 2008 pictures. I hope you enjoy them and please feel free to pass them on! I am always open to suggestions also, so if you see something you like, or dislike, please feel free to let me know!
If anyone happens to know any of the people in the pictures below can you please let me know (sorry, it is hard to remember everyone's names at these meetings!). Thanks :)

Who is the girl with the fun shirt?

Who are these three nice men?

Who is the lady to the left please?

Who is Bill talking to here?

Hello ReBecca - Thanks for posting all the photos. I was unable to attend SVP, but I donated a large photographic poster that I think ended up in the SVP Live Auction. I can see it rolled up on the table in some of the photos you've posted but never saw any photos of it being sold and was curious if you know who (if anyone) had purchased it or where it ended up. It was a rolled 12x36 photograph of a T-rex skeleton confronting a Triceratops skeleton and with their names along the bottom. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi MDR,

I do seem to remember this. unfortunately I do not remember who got it or how much it went for. You could contact the SVP business office. They have all of the forms from the auction and would know. Good luck and thanks for the donation!

What is the SVP and what do they do?

The SVP (or Society of Vertebrate Paleontology) website says it best "The society is organized exclusively for educational and scientific purposes. The object of the society is to advance the science of vertebrate paleontology and to serve the common interests and facilitate the cooperation of all persons concerned with the history, evolution, comparative anatomy, and taxonomy of vertebrate animals, as well as field occurrence, collection, and study of fossil vertebrates and the stratigraphy of the beds in which they are found. The society is also concerned with the conservation and preservation of fossil sites."

So basically it is a group of people that enjoy the same thing - paleontology. Every year we have a meeting where research is presented (formerly as a talk or printed poster with your research on it) and you have a chance to hang out with your fellow paleontologist. It is a great society to be a member of and their website has quite a bit of good information on it for people getting started off int he field. You should check it out: http://www.vertpaleo.org/index.cfm

I'm pretty sure that the woman in the final picture is Sun Hwang (http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/112092608/abstract?CRETRY=1&SRETRY=0 = the published portion of her thesis).
