Bummer!

The S. 22, the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009 that contained the Paleontological Resources Preservation Act (PRPA) did not pass. From what I understand it was two votes short. Bummer!

  1. Don't throw up your hands. It's not dead. There were 282 votes in favor of the legislation, more than enough to pass it when it comes up under a regular rule (which I hope will be soon). Since it came up under suspension, it had to receive a 2/3rds vote in favor which it didn't. I guess the House managers thought they had the votes. It'll be back.

  2. I would add that press coverage suggests the whole bill fell victim to a fight over gun rights in national parks, and that it's unclear what the next steps will be.

  3. I haven't. I was just away from the computer all day and disappointed when I got home and saw it did not pass. Glad it did as well as it did. Where have you seen reports online about it? All I have read is what has been on the vertpaleo list serv and that is just even more depressing and aggravating.
